"Well, now that we have seen each other," said the Unicorn, "if you’ll believe in me, I’ll believe in you. Is that a bargain?"

—Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

Hi internet, I'm Nullish. It's been a while.

I mean, a while since I've thought about the web in this way. Like many others, I'm on a journey to rediscover how to have fun online. For me, creating and maintaining a personal web site will be a big part of this journey.

Goals for this Site

I'm doing this for me.

First and foremost, I want to create something that I enjoy. I'll probably look at this site more than all other humans combined, so this is a space where my own wants and needs come first. Thanks for understanding :)

Have fun, and take a break if it ever stops being fun.

This is a hobby, not a job. I expect that my tolerance for tedium is going to be near-zero when working on this site, and that's okay. The only driver of changes on this site is my own motivation, and it's perfectly natural for this to wax and wane over time.

Learn new things, on my timeline, because I want to.

There's no pressure here, and that's what makes it fun. Something I've already (re)discovered is that slowing down has been key to making the intersection of tech and learning enjoyable again. Being forced by external constraints isn't enjoyable. None of that here.

Connect with a community that doesn't exist inside of a walled garden.

I'm here for connection and interaction, not likes or internet points. I certainly have no interest in taking part in anything that might serve to "drive engagement" on a big tech walled garden platform. It makes me happy to think that any time spent by anyone here might be time that isn't being spent there.

Contribute a tiny sliver of resistance to the state of the corporate web in 2026.

I'd like to think of this site as a tiny act of resistance. As you'll see on my plans page, I'm beyond done with the corporate web. It's time we all moved on to something better.
